Barbadians ‘happy to get out’ for Mother’s Day Article by May 9, 2021 After relatively quiet Mother’s Day celebrations in 2020 because of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, Barbadians turned out in their numbers today to celebrate the special day. Several families flocked to Champers Restaurant, The Sands Hotel, and other establishments around the island to enjoy the variety of cuisines on offer. Speaking with Barbados TODAY, owner of Champers Restaurant, Chiryl Newman, said that the response so far has been an overwhelming one for Mother’s Day, with the restaurant being fully booked for both lunch and dinner spots. “The day has been going brilliantly. I think Barbadians, because they could not celebrate Mother’s Day last year because we were in shut down, were just happy to get out. After all the ash [from La Soufriere volcano], people were just fed and [so] came out today,” she said. ....
