New York, February 07: The Foreign Office on Saturday said that the New York State Assembly’s decision to adopt a resolution marking Feb 5 as ‘Kashmir-American Day’ was a “welcome development”.
“The resolution appreciates the courage and perseverance of the Kashmiri people and recognises their unique cultural and religious identity. It also underscores that ‘the State of New York endeavours to champion human rights including the freedom of religion, movement, and expression for all Kashmiri people’,” FO spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudri was quoted as saying in a statement. ....

THE destruction of an El Socorro business on Wednesday is being optimistically viewed as a new beginning by the company’s marketing director.
Speaking with the media after Wednesday morning’s fire at Chrome Furnishers Ltd, Nazia Mohammed said: “This is a time of change. New beginnings are coming.”
The fire at the businessplace at Farouk Avenue El Socorro, San Juan was reported around 5.55 am on Wednesday. Fire officials said they had to break down two walls to get inside the building to extinguish the flames, which spread to three homes nearby. ....

Belthangady, Dec 30: Police have registered a case against 15 people on suspicion of raising pro-Pakistan slogans outside a centre in Ujire where counting of votes polled for Gram Panchayat election was in progress on Wednesday.
A video of raising pro-Pakistan slogan outside the gram panchayat election vote counting centre, is going viral on social media. Activists of both SDPI and BJP can be seen in the video.
Police said some SDPI activists who were celebrating their candidate’s win in the election, shouted pro-Pakistan slogans outside a counting centre here on Wednesday. ....

New Delhi, Dec 30: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday called for a high-level probe through an independent agency into the death of SL Dharme Gowda, deputy chairperson of the Karnataka Legislative Council.
Condoling demise of Dharme Gowda, Birla said: The unfortunate incident in the House, when he was in Chair, is a serious attack on democracy. It is necessary to have a high-level probe through an independent agency into his death.

Bengaluru, Dec 22: The Social Democratic Party of India has urged the BJP government to immediately stop the continuous “misuse of NIA and other investigating agencies against the pro-people activists and organizations”.
Addressing a press conference here Afsar Kodlipate, Karnataka State General Secretary, of SDPI accused the government of targeting innocents after a protest against the blasphemous remarks against the Prophet Muhammad took a violent turn in August 2020 in Bengaluru’s D G Halli & K G Halli.
“This violence was used for the political agenda. First the investigation was done by state police and later by the National Investigation Agency.
