Two found dead in stranded vehicle on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway

Two persons were found dead inside a load carrier at Banihal along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which remained closed for vehicular traffic for the second day on Sunday following snowfall, officials said.
Shabir Ahmad Mir (22) and Majid Gulzar Mir (30), both residents of Kralpora village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, were on way to Srinagar but left stranded after snow around the Jawahar Tunnel forced closure of the highway early on Saturday, the officials said.
They said the duo was found unconscious inside their vehicle this morning and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where both of them were declared brought dead. ....

Stranded On Highway, Two Kashmiri Residents Die Waiting In Mini-Truck

SRINAGAR: Two persons waiting to crossover the tunnel and reach home died in Banihal overnight. Both are said to be Kupwara residents.
A TATA mobile in which two persons from Kralpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara died at Banihal on Sunday, January 24, 2020.
“They were in their TATA Mobile and we traced one of them died in the morning. SHO Banihal was accompanying us,” Mudasir Ahmad, who runs a voluntary group in Banihal said. “The other person was unconscious and he died while being driven to the hospital. Right now, an autopsy is being conducted on both of them.”
They have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Mir (son of Abdul Rashid Mir) and Majid Gulzar Mir (son of Gulzar Ahmad Mir) of Kralpora in Kupwara. They were in their TATA Mobile (JK09B-7358) and died during the night. Authorities will offer some reason for the deaths after the autopsy is over. In official circles, it is being attributed to suffocation but the residents and the stranded people say it ....

Death Of Two Stranded Passengers On Highway 'Cold-Blooded Murder': AIP

SRINAGAR: Incarcerated Er Rashid lead Jammu Kashmir Awami Itehad Party on Sunday in a statement denounced the monstrously cold-blooded approach of LG administration towards people of Kashmir.
AIP spokesman in a statement said on one side this heartless regime is entertaining junkets of BJP leaders from India and on other side hapless stranded passengers are dying from sub-zero temperatures on the highway.
“It is absolutely regretful that the present administration is not doing enough for stranded passengers on the highway. Yesterday two people stranded in Banihal region lost their lives since they had to spend the night in their vehicle owing to the fact that nearly all hotels were full as per local sources,” he said. ....
