KARACHI: An antiterrorism court summoned on Wednesday a judicial magistrate to record his testimony about a ‘confession’ of alleged Lyari kingpin Uzair Baloch about kidnapping and murder of two Rangers personnel.
Baloch, the chief of the defunct Peoples Amn Committee, faces dozens of case of murder, kidnapping, extortion and terrorism pending before the sessions’ and antiterrorism courts in Karachi.
Since January 2021, he has been acquitted in around 21 cases.
On Wednesday, the ATC-XVI judge was set to record the testimony of judicial magistrate Syed Imran Imam Zaidi, who had purportedly recorded confessional statement of Uzair in the present case in 2016. ....

A district and sessions court has acquitted a suspected gangster, Uzair Baloch, in two more cases pertaining to shoot-outs with police for lack of evidence.
Uzair, who was the chief of the banned outfit Peoples Amn Committee and alleged kingpin of the horrific gang war in Lyari, was accused of attacking police in the neighbourhood to deter them from crackdown against criminals.
According to the prosecution, he ordered his men to carry out armed assault on the policemen stationed within the remits of the Kalri and Kalakot police stations to maintain law and order in the crime-infested area in 2012. ....

KARACHI: A sessions’ court has acquitted alleged Lyari gang warfare kingpin Uzair Baloch in two more cases for “lack of evidence” against him.
Baloch, chief of the defunct Peoples Amn Committee, was exonerated of the charges of attacking policemen in the violence-torn Lyari neighbourhood during a crackdown against gangsters in 2012.
Additional District and Sessions’ Judge (South) Faraz Ahmed Chandio recently pronounced his verdict.
Police had nominated Habib Jan Baloch, Wasiullah Lakho, Umar Kachhi and Sharfuddin as suspects in the case and showed M. Kashif and Faisal Mehmood as absconders. ....
