After the positive reception of Click!: Historic McPherson Photographs and Their Stories, McPherson Public Library Director, Steve Read realized that a subsequent documentary video was necessary.
And just in time for National Library Week, the library is pleased to announce the release of Click! 2: More Historic McPherson Photographs and Their Stories.   Both of these videos offer a unique look at photographs from the library’s extensive collection, while Read, Jennie Hall and Melissa Smith offer their insights, stories and information about each. ....

Students attempt to convert David Turpin Building’s green roof into growing space
Rooftop garden proposal has deep roots in campus food movement
Six students in a 400-level environmental studies course are working to convert the green roof atop the David Turpin Building (DTB) into productive gardens to increase food security and build community on campus. The green roofs were included in the original design of DTB, which was completed in 2008. There is some evidence that seeds were planted years ago but the space has since been reclaimed by weeds and grass.
Ideally, the students would like to see the food served in cafeterias on campus and supplied to the UVSS Food Bank and Free Store, and envision the gardens being a community gathering space and opportunity for hands-on learning. ....

North Newton artist Susan Bartel’s current collection, I Noticed, Visual Stories by Susan Bartel, is now on display at the McPherson Public Library through April 27th.
“Painting in watercolor is my passion,” Bartel said, “I covet the unexpected miracles that happen in watercolor - it’s a dance between control and letting the colors mix and sing for themselves. I use a limited palette, often preferring to work with only three primary colors, watching the colors mix on the painting, rather than the palette.  When my work is going well I am filled with a sense of wonder at the beauty of color and the world we inhabit. My hope is that some of this wonder is also conveyed to you, the viewer.” ....

The Malahat Review invites creative nonfiction writers to enter the Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Prize, for which one prize of
$CAN 1,000 is awarded. The contest is open to Canadian and international writers anywhere in the world, with a final deadline of 11:59pm (PDT) on 5 August 2020. All entries are judged anonymously, and the winning piece will be published in the magazine s winter issue #213. The Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Prize is awarded to the best work submitted to the magazine’s annual contest for a genre that embraces, but is not limited to, the personal essay, memoir, narrative nonfiction, social commentary, travel writing, historical accounts, and biography, all enhanced by such elements as description, dramatic scenes, dialogue, and characterization. ....
