The figure is the lowest number of cases reported for any one day since four cases were reported on June 22. Additionally, the MCHD reported 556 tests on Sunday and 12 COVID-19 patients in Madison County hospitals, two on ventilators. On Monday the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 196,744 COVID-19 vaccinations so far in the county. IDPH officials said 96,475 county residents or 36.48% of the county’s population are now fully vaccinated for COVID-19. ....

According to Pew Charitable Trusts, the total amount set aside in state rainy day funds fell for the first time since the Great Recession. State rainy day funds nationwide had a balance of $71.6 billion in fiscal year 2020-21, an amount second only to the pre-pandemic record-setting total of $78.7 billion. “These are really a state’s best line of defense for eliminating budget gaps without harming residents or their economies during a recession or in response to unforeseen emergencies like the coronavirus pandemic,” said Justin Theal, an officer with Pew. ....
Alton school will host COVID vaccinations Ron DeBrock, [email protected] FacebookTwitterEmail WOOD RIVER The Madison County Health Department has added two more schools in Alton and Highland to the list of upcoming COVID-19 vaccination sites. The MCHD will offer vaccinations June 3 at Alton High School and June 9 at Highland Primary School. Earlier this week the MCHD also announced vaccination clinics at Granite City High School on May 24, Triad High School in Troy on May 27, Trimpe Middle School in Bethalto on June 2 and Collinsville Middle School on June 7. All four are planned for 3:30-7:30 p.m. Additional clinics are planned May 25 at the Hamel Community Center and May 21-25 at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville. The MCHD is accepting walk-ins at the vaccination clinics, but appointments are requested. Vaccinations are available for people 12 and older. ....

The board voted 7-0 Wednesday after receiving guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and is subject to “favorable public health conditions.” The resolution states that all schools must resume fully in-person learning for all student attendance days, provided that remote instruction be made available for students who are not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine and are under quarantine order by a local health department or IDPH. ....
