Nashville Vice Mayor Jim Shulman named new CEO of Safe Haven

Nashville Vice Mayor Jim Shulman will become the new CEO of Safe Haven Family Shelter starting June 14.
Its mission of keeping families experiencing homelessness together and providing housing with services that help parents and children to be successful is critical, especially as Nashville continues to grow, Shulman said in a press release. I m excited and fortunate to lead this incredible organization and look forward to being a part of the integral role that Safe Haven plays in our city.
Safe Haven is a nonprofit organization that has provided a shelter-to-housing program for families experiencing homelessness for over 37 years.
Shulman will replace longtime CEO Joyce Lavery. Under Lavery, the shelter has increased the number of families it served by 300%, according to the release. ....

Homelessness group gets $1.25M from Bezos

The fund provided $1.25 million to the Nashville-based shelter-to-housing program.
This is the third round of grants from the Bezos fund, which was established in 2018.
According to a release, the organization will use the funds to provide shelter and support to additional families as well as “strengthen infrastructure for key program offerings, such as youth programs and workforce development.”
The one-time grant “will be catalytic in propelling Safe Haven further toward our vision of eliminating family homelessness in Nashville,” CEO Joyce Lavery said in the release.
Bezos $2 billion fund was established with the two-pronged goal of granting money to existing nonprofits working to help homeless families and creating a network of new preschools in low-income communities. ....
