PUNJAB: The lure for the olive uniform among the Punjab youth has faded over the years as the number of youngsters joining as commissioned officers has declined. The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI), set up by the Punjab government in 2011, is determined to reverse the trend.
The institute has sent 162 cadets to the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA), Indian Military Academy (IMA) and other service academies since 2013. It has been credited with securing all- India rank 1 in the NDA merit list on two occasions, besides once holding rank 1 in the merit list of Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai. ....

The upcoming institute will impart training to the aspirants for induction into armed forces, keeping the entry at graduate level for CDSE/AFCAT. The institute will run three courses of three months duration with intake capacity of 40 candidates, thus imparting training to 120 candidates in a year.

Chandigarh, Feb 3 : Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday virtually laid the foundation stone of a armed forces preparatory institute in Hoshiarpur district to facilitate more youth taking up a career in the defence services.
The Sardar Bahadur Amin Chand Soni Armed Forces Preparatory Institute project will be executed at a cost of Rs 27 crore over an area of 12.75 acres by the PWD (B&R) Department and would be completed by the end of 2021. ....

Chandigarh [India], February 3 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of Sardar Bahadur Amin Chand Soni Armed Forces Preparatory Institute at Bajwara in Punjab s Hoshiarpur district through video conferencing.
According to an official release issued by the Punjab government, the project will be executed at a cost of Rs 27 crore over an area of 12.75 acres by the Punjab Public Works Department (PWD) Building and Roads department and would be completed by the end of 2021.
The upcoming institute is to facilitate more youth from the state to take up defence services as a career and will impart training to 270 candidates per year, the statement read. ....
