Outdoor venues continue to multiply in 2021.
Last year, arts groups scrambled to fashion stages within mere weeks as the coronavirus pandemic brought indoor entertainment to a halt. Their efforts were worth it audiences snapped up tickets to events that allowed social distance, fresh air and fun.

Broken glasses, vodka bottles, cigarette butts and cans all over the place at Mullinahone Playground last week.

There were shocking scenes at Mullinahone playground last week with broken glasses, vodka bottles, cigarette butts and cans all over the place. This mess was kindly cleaned up and even vacuumed by some local mothers, but please be aware that there could still be shards of glass left on the ground, so do not let your children go barefoot.
This behaviour is totally unacceptable and ever so dangerous.
Parents please speak to your children about litter and when you are at the playground, please consider bringing some gloves and picking up any litter you might find. Children learn by seeing what we do. ....

Disgusting is how one parent describes the discarded broken glass making playgrounds in Rotorua dangerous for kids.
The issue has become so concerning at one playground that the Rotorua Lakes Council has closed it and
suspects some glass was left on the ground with the intent to cause injury.
Council sport, recreation and environment manager Rob Pitkethley told the Rotorua Daily Post glass was again becoming an issue at Susan St playground. ....

Niswonger Children's Hospital unveils new adaptive playground

Kids took turns clambering up the slide at Niswonger Childrenâs Hospitalâs new adaptive playground on Friday, beaming as they coasted back down to earth.
Ballad Health unveiled the new play area during a press conference Friday morning. It is designed to be inclusive for young patients of all abilities.
âThe equipment that youâll see thatâs stationed throughout this area is designed for all children,â said Lisa Carter, the CEO of the Niswonger Childrenâs Hospital.
âObviously we have children in our building who have medical devices and equipment. Theyâre on oxygen, they have IVs attached to them, but we wanted to create a space where any child with any issue, any piece of equipment could come out and participate in play.â ....
