GJSD approves agreements | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education approved two Memorandums of Agreement at its recent meeting at the Knox Building. The board passed an MOA between the district and the Johnstown Teachers’ Association, as it relates to a one-time only retirement incentive for the 2020-2021 school year. Superintendent William Crankshaw was also authorized to execute the agreement. Board members also approved an MOA for a physical education and health and athletics and extracurricular programs coordinator, The agreement is specifically between the district and the Johnstown Administrators’ Association. Crankshaw was also authorized to execute that MOA.

(Photo courtesy of GJSD) JOHNSTOWN The Greater Johnstown School District will move forward Tuesday with plans to bring students from Warren Street Elementary School in grades third through sixth back to in-person learning four days a week after the district’s spring break. Monday will be a fully remote day for all Warren Street students, giving staff necessary time to acclimate to their new classrooms. In order to satisfy six-foot social distancing requirements, a district release issued Thursday said students and teachers will be split into two buildings for the remainder of the school year, with grades three and four staying at Warren Street and grades five and six moving to the Knox Building, which currently houses district administrators, pre-K and several BOCES s

After all, there’s nothing sweeter than passing out goodie bags and cards to your peers. That’s why several local schools and districts are finding ways to keep the holiday, and its many in-school celebrations, going for students who opted for in-person learning this year amid the pandemic. “I remember being an elementary kid and coming home with the big envelope that you made out of paper,” said Bob Kraemer, principal of Johnstown’s Warren Street Elementary.  “And you stapled it and filled it with all your Valentine’s Day cards. It’s just a tradition that elementary kids should have. And we didn’t want to lose it.”
