Tourism Bay of Plenty big winner of community funding plans

A council-controlled organisation that receives millions of dollars in local government funding has secured a large chunk of a community initiatives fund. The Bay of Plenty Regional Council met on Wednesday to discuss its Long-term Plan deliberations, which included the allocation of $200,000 through a Community Initiatives Fund. Another $200,000 was considered for enhanced community engagement and participation plus $500,000 to better support local volunteers.
Tourism Bay of Plenty Low Carbon Economy will receive $60,000 and Tauranga Moana Biosecurity Capital will receive $40,000 per annum from the Community Initiatives Fund. A total of 28 groups applied for funding.
Since Operation Tauwhiro
launched in February, 350 firearms have been seized, along
with $2.46 million in cash.
378 people have been
arrested in relation to firearms offences.
“Although
we are only in the early stages of this long-term operation,
these initial results are significant,” says Assistant

“A recent search warrant in Auckland
recovered 11 starter pistols in various states of conversion
to live firing firearms.
Following a search warrant in
Northland, ten firearms were located - seven semi-automatic
rifles, one bolt action rifle, and two
shotguns”.

A new $75 million commercial town centre development for Ōmokoroa just given the green light is vital for the suburb s growing population, community leaders say. Independent commissioners have granted resource consent for Jace Investments Limited s privately-funded project.
The proposal would see a mixed-use retail and commercial precinct with medium density residential units and visitor accommodation established at 404 Ōmokoroa Rd.
