COVID-19 in Manitoba: One death, 211 new cases reported Tuesday

WINNIPEG
New COVID-19 case numbers in Manitoba topped 200 for the first time since January 24, with the province reporting 211 new infections Tuesday, along with one death related to the virus.
The death was a woman in her 90s from the Prairie Mountain health region, which is linked to an outbreak at the Russell Health Centre. The provincial death toll sits at 960.
The newly announced cases bring the total number of lab-confirmed cases in the province to 36,470, after eight cases were removed due to a data correction. Manitoba now has 1,783 active cases of the virus with 33,727 recoveries.
The majority of the newly announced cases are in the Winnipeg health region with 138. The city now has the most active cases in the province with 803. ....

Province declares COVID-19 outbreak at Flin Flon Personal Care Home

The number of cases at the Flin Flon PCH is currently unknown - The Reminder has reached out to the Northern Health Region (NHR) for comment on the outbreak. According to provincial guidelines, an outbreak is declared for a long-term care home or personal care home if a staff member or resident tests positive for COVID-19.
A new pair of possible exposures to the B.1.1.7 variant of concern were reported in the NHR April 16 - a person who was at the Thompson Walmart between 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. April 6 and at the Thompson Safeway between 2 p.m.-3 p.m. April 10 has since tested positive for the B.1.1.7 variant. Any person who attended the two stores during those times who has developed possible COVID-19 symptoms is asked to immediately self isolate and go for a COVID-19 test. ....

COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Flin Flon for Northern Lights Manor, Personal Care Home residents

The vaccine was available to all consenting residents at the personal care homes.
Over the past week, about 4,700 residents in Manitoba seniors facilities were eligible to receive vaccine doses, including 136 residents within the Northern Health Region at three separate facilities - in addition to the Flin Flon-area residences, 66 people at the St. Paul s Residence in The Pas were able to receive their doses.
COVID-19 outbreaks had been announced at all three facilities earlier in the pandemic, with six cases in total - one in a staff member during an exposure last summer and five other people who tested positive after a second exposure months later - reported at the Northern Lights Manor. The manor was declared free of any outbreaks as of Jan. 6. Another outbreak at the Flin Flon Personal Care Home, reported after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, was declared over Dec. 16 after no other people, including staff members and residents, reported any positive ....
