A spelling mistake on a Wisconsin water tower has given its residents a good laugh. The Village of Plover had its water tower repainted last week, but the spelling error left the town with a new name, Village of Plvoer. WGN 9, the crews responsible for the paint job accidentally made the spelling error on both the stencil and the water tower paint job. Thank you to the painters. “New paint job on the Plvoer water tower looks great,” joked one Twitter user. “Can’t wait to move to Plvoer, Wisconsin this weekend!” said another. At least one enterprising individual also started making shirts with the phrase “Lvoe Plvoer” in response, with proceeds going to a local Boys & Girls club in “Plvoer,” she said. The blunder happened while the water tower was being repainted on Thursday, according to Village Administrator Dan Mahoney. Crews began painting over the mistake the same day, and were expected to finish Friday, he told the Stevens Point Journal. Plover, meanwhile, is not the only Wisconsin municipality to have a mishap regarding a water tower, as Sussex had one in 2017 when workers painted over the “SUS” and left the rest of the tower which read “SEX” until the following day. ....
PLOVER - Fire destroyed a garage and damaged a home early Monday morning in Portage County. Fire crews responded around 12:15 a.m. to a home on Golden Road in the village of Plover, according to the Plover Fire Department. Fire Chief Mark Deaver said an attached garage was on fire, and it spread to the kitchen and upstairs of the home. He said the fire woke up the people living there, and they escaped without injuries before firefighters arrived. Deaver said the fire is under investigation and there s no damage estimate yet. He said he doesn’t think the fire was suspicious. ....
