After getting COVID-19 last fall, Nick Tompkins’ kidney function plummeted to 10%.
Tompkins, 24, of Blackman Township has IgA nephropathy, a kidney disease that causes a lack of filtration and a weaker immune system. He’s battled it since he was about 10 years old, but when he got COVID-19 in November, his kidneys went from functioning at 25% to about 16% in January, and then to 10% shortly thereafter. ....

HENRIETTA TWP. A Lansing woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Jackson County, according to the sheriff s office.
The 41-year-old woman was driving north on M-106 near Plum Orchard Road at about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday when she tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, according to the Jackson County Sheriff s Office.
Her vehicle collided with a southbound vehicle head on and she died from her injuries on scene, according to the sheriff s office. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. ....

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A Lansing woman was killed Wednesday night in a head-on crash in Henrietta Township.
Emergency crews were called at 9:20 p.m. May 5, to M-106 at Plum Orchard Road in northern Jackson County for a reported two-vehicle crash, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Police arrived to find one driver, a 41-year-old Lansing woman, had suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators determined the Lansing woman was going north on M-106 when she attempted to pass another northbound vehicle in a no passing zone and crashed into an oncoming vehicle going south, police said. ....
