A brave surfer whose brother died over the weekend has battled on to compete in a top competition.
Western Australian surfing champion Dave Macaulay announced his beloved son Jack has died, but his sister Bronte still surfed in the semi-finals of the World Surf League on Monday.
Seven-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore charged into her first tour final of the year on an emotional day for the Australian surfers at the Margaret River Pro.
Gilmore looked down and out in her semi-final clash with arch rival Carissa Moore but stunned with a powerful final-minute ride to score 7.67 to overtake the top-ranked Hawaiian. ....

Weston-Webb dedicates World Surf League win to Macaulay family after tragedy

Brazilian pair Tatiana Weston-Webb and Filipe Toledo emerged victorious on an emotion-filled finals day at the World Surf League Championship Tour leg in Margaret River in Australia.
Weston-Webb was crowned champion after posting a winning score of 16.23 points in the final against Australia’s seven-time champion Stephanie Gilmore who notched 15.00.
Weston-Webb s victory came after beating Australia’s Bronte Macaulay, who surfed the semi-final following the sudden death of her brother over the weekend.
This win is for the Macaulay family, said Weston-Webb.
I came up against Bronte earlier today and seeing her show up for her heat was so brave. ....
