Painting believed to be of Emily Bronte is put up for sale


A PICTURE believed to be a portrait of Emily Bronte and owned by the late Professor Christopher Heywood of Gargrave, has been put up for sale.
The ‘Lost Bonnet Portrait’ is being auctioned by Northamptonshire firm Humbert Ellis in a timed online-only sale ending on Sunday, May 23 by the executors of the English Literature professor’s estate with no reserve and an estimate of £25,000 to £40,000.
Prof Heywood, a founder member of Gargrave Heritage Group, who always played the ‘Chief Priest’ in the annual nativity play, was affectionately known in the village as ‘The Prof’. He retired to Gargrave, and died earlier this year, aged 93, a few months after moving into a care home. ....

Haworth's Bronte Parsonage Museum to reopen with two exhibitions


HAWORTH S Bronte Parsonage Museum reopens to the public on Wednesday, May 19, as lockdown restrictions are further eased.
Visitors will be welcomed back through the doors almost 126 years to the day since the original Bronte Museum opened in 1895.
The reopening comes after a tough period for the parsonage, which like other attractions has been hit hard by the impact of the pandemic.
The museum has been closed throughout the winter and early spring.
It received £119,200 from Arts Council England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s Culture Recovery Fund. The money helped the Bronte Society – the charity responsible for the museum – to provide support through lockdown and increase digital activity. ....
