Tennessee to increase probation and parole officer pay

The Tennessee Department of Correction has announced that it will soon implement pay raises for probation and parole officers after the salary increases were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 
The agency announced Wednesday that the 7.5% pay bump will become effective July 1. Governor Bill Lee and the General Assembly approved the raises in 2019, but the virus outbreak caused significant delays to the approval and implementation.
“Our probation/parole staff supervise more than 70,000 people in our communities,” said Commissioner Tony Parker in a staff memo. “Each day, they carry out our mission of effective community supervision by ensuring those under our correctional control are compliant with following directives.”  ....

Killeen man sentenced to probation after injuring infant boy


A Killeen man was sentenced earlier this week to a term of deferred adjudication probation after using a spoon to beat an infant boy last year.
Dejuan Turner, 29, pleaded guilty on April 6 to a third-degree felony charge of intentional injury to a child. On Tuesday afternoon in the 27th Judicial District Court, Judge John Gauntt sentenced Turner to four years of deferred adjudication probation.
The judge followed a plea agreement in the case.
On March 18, 2020, Belton police responded to a residence to take a report of possible child abuse. The woman told police that she had picked up her child, who was less than a year old, from the child’s father’s residence in Killeen and noticed “extensive bruising to the buttocks and rear thighs” of the child. ....
