The Irish Examiner reports that the data shows that there s been no significant rise between 2019 and last year, despite the onset of COVID-19 and the associated lockdown measures introduced by the government in March of last year. However, Professor Ella Arensman at the foundation says she s concerned about how long people s resilience can be stretched, particularly those who have existing mental health vulnerabilities. The demand on mental health supports and suicide prevention services has soared across Ireland during the pandemic. Fears have been expressed for many organisations about the impact COVID-19 is having on people s mental health due to isolation, lack of social interaction, financial stress and personal fears about the virus.
