‘Cost of restoring Pathanamthitta stadium must be borne by BJP’
Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Pathanamthitta, a perceived delay in dismantling the temporary helipads set up at the Municipal stadium to facilitate his arrival here has kicked up a row with the civic body seeking urgent intervention of the district administration. T. Zakir Hussain, chairman, Pathanamthitta municipality, said a note had been handed over to the district administration seeking its intervention in restoring the multi-sports arena by dismantling the three helipads. The cost of the restoration works, according to him, should be borne by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had organised the Prime Minister’s event.

Rahul Gandhi took a lesson on cooking and Tamil from Village Cooking Channel
Chefs of the Village Cooking Channel (VCC), a hugely popular YouTube venture run by a group of farmers from Chinna Veeramangalam in Pudukottai district, were in for a surprise when they were invited to share a cookout session with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his recent election campaign visit to Karur district.
Tamil Nadu’s Village Cooking Channel on YouTube hosts Rahul Gandhi
It is not every day that a special guest drops by to give a local YouTube cooking channel a big boost. Rahul Gandhi did just that when he appeared on Tamil Nadu s popular Village Cooking Channel and interacted with the local chefs, who served a special dish to the Congress Vice President. Relishing the delicious Mushroom Biryani in the authentic South Indian style, Rahul Gandhi was all-praise for the commitment and ambitions of the chefs.
Rahul Gandhi was joined by Karur MP Jothimani, who helped with the translation, and AICC in-charge of TN, Puducherry and Goa Dinesh Gundu Rao. Hosting the political leaders were the chefs, V. Subramanian, who runs VCC along with his cousins V. Murugesan, V. Ayyanar, G. Tamilselvan and T. Muthumanickam, led by their grandfather and former mass caterer M. Periyathambi.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has recently said that the Provincial Council (PC) elections will be held when the ground situation is conducive. Minister Sarath Weerasekara insists on scrapping the PCs. Ambassador Nalin de Silva has opined that in the absence of elected PCs, the 13th Amendment to the Constitution (13A) stands abolished.
There are three competing standpoints: (a) Legally, the PM believes the 13A is intact; (b) Conceptually, Minister Weerasekara believes 13A is live, but must be “killed”; and (c) Cavalierly, Ambassador de Silva thinks it is already dead! Thankfully, sanity prevailed when Sagara Kariyawasam MP, following the PM’s statement said: “The 13A remains part of the Constitution, and elections will have to be conducted” and “PCs cannot be indefinitely run by Governors and officials.”
