ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to seek investment from China for becoming a shareholder in the state-of-art PARCO coastal refinery and petrochemical complex of $8-9 billion, to be built at Hub, Balochistan.
In addition, Islamabad has also asked Beijing to invest in projects, including upgradation of existing refineries, setting up of underground gas storages, exploration and production activities and national seismic surveys in frontiers and hard areas, such as some pockets of Balochistan and bordering areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
And now in the next 10th Pak-China JCC meeting, the PARCO coastal refinery project among others is the main project on part of Pakistan that will be included in the agenda. ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to remove moratorium on new gas connections for industrial and captive consumers in Balochistan after a gap of almost a decade.
For ensuring implementation of the decision, the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) has constituted a five-member committee to first approve a criterion for fresh connections.
The Petroleum Division had reported to the CCOE that almost a year ago in a meeting at the division presided over by Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Nadeem Babar and senior officials discussed the issue of provision of gas to industrial and captive power customers of Balochistan on the request of private sector. ....

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister Nadeem Babar said on Friday Pakistan was paying $527,000 (Rs84.3m) per day because of ill-conceived agreements of the previous government.
Speaking in a private channel programme, he said that the terminal was being paid in full for 10 months, but no gas was received.
He claimed that it had become hard to supply cheap gas to domestic users due to the previous government’s agreements. Now they have to pay at least Rs1400 per month, instead of Rs250-300, he added.
While conceding that the country indeed needs LNG and that the PML-N government did the right thing by shifting power plants from diesel to LNG, Nadeem said during the PML-N era, LNG was declared as petrol which was a wrong step. These power plants only ran on LNG for two-and-a-half years, not seven, he added. ....
