There will be new faces on the Mid-Prairie School District staff roster next fall. At their April meeting, the Mid-Prairie School Board approved the positions of half-time Early Childhood Facilitator and a sixth, third grade teacher for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. This will cause some shuffling around the West Elementary building to accommodate another section of third grade. The alternative kindergarten class will become the new room for third grade while the kindergarten class will move into a rental or modular classroom placed on school grounds and shared with the music classroom. The board approved the addition of the third grade teacher and early childhood facilitator but asked administration to gather more information regarding modular classrooms. The two teaching positions will be paid for with ESSER/COVID funds granted to the district. ....
Parents are asking the Mid-Prairie School Board to review possible changes to the district-wide COVID mask mandate in place since last October. All students and employees are required to wear masks and Superintendent Mark Schneider says about a dozen parents spoke during the public forum at Monday night’s school board meeting requesting perhaps loosening the policy. He says the district’s COVID numbers indicate the time to study the issue is appropriate, “The situation with COVID, at least in our area, is improving. The number of students infected and the number of students quarantined is down, we had approximately 165 employees receive their first round of vaccinations.” ....
