May 13, 2021

Washington, D.C. – The Women’s Democracy Network (WDN) has announced its Advisory Council for 2021-2023. As WDN continues its work promoting women’s participation in political and civic leadership worldwide, the Council will play a vital role in uplifting women to pursue their political leadership goals.
“Throughout the last fifteen years, WDN has leveraged its incredible network of both aspiring and experienced women leaders to address today’s continued lack of gender equality in political leadership” said Cindy McCain, WDN’s honorary chairwoman. “The guidance and shared experience of the remarkable women composing our Advisory Council will be critical in inspiring and mobilizing our members.” ....

Joe Biden's Bipartisan Dream May Already Be Dead

Joe Biden s Bipartisan Dream May Already Be Dead
On 5/12/21 at 5:43 AM EDT
President Joe Biden s hopes of restoring bipartisanship to Washington, D.C. may have already been dashed as Republicans on Capitol Hill show little sign of backing his agenda.
Biden repeatedly called for a bipartisan approach to governing during last year s White House campaign. This harked back to his 36 years in the Senate, which had a less severe partisan divide when he was first elected in 1972 and for many years afterwards.

When I say that, and I said that from the time I announced, I was told that, Maybe that s the way things used to work, Joe, you got a lot done before, Joe, but you can t do that anymore. Well, I m here to tell you and say we can, and we must. ....

Cooling the temperature: Biden faces fractious Congress

WASHINGTON (AP) Can lawmakers all just listen to the president even for one night? Recent history is not assuring. Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted “you lie!” at President Barack Obama when he was giving a joint speech to Congress in 2009. Eleven years later, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped up a copy of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech as she stood behind him on the House rostrum. Partisan tensions have only deepened on Capitol Hill since Pelosi’s defiant act last year, which came days before the Senate acquitted Trump in his first impeachment trial. Since then, the U.S. Capitol has been through the Jan. 6 insurrection, a second impeachment of Trump and another acquittal. ....
