The parents of the former U.S. Marine jailed in Russia are calling for his release ahead of the Geneva summit where leaders Vladimir Putin and President Joe Biden will be meeting on Wednesday.
Trevor Reed, 29, has been placed in a Russian prison for nearly two years. The couple are hoping that Biden and Putin come to an agreement at the Geneva summit on Wednesday to have Reed released.
Joey and Paula Reed received a letter from their son, Trevor Reed, dated June 7 that he had contracted the coronavirus in Russia s prison cell. ....

The embassy was asking for COVID tests, and the Russians wouldn t give it to them, and the attorneys after five or six days wrote a formal request for a COVID test on Friday. On Sunday, they gave him a COVID test and said he was fine Monday morning, Joey Reed said. On May 25, the Russians notify the attorneys that the test they gave him on Sunday showed up positive and he might be exposed.
As of right now, Reed is isolating but receiving no medications. This is just one of the hardships he is facing in the SIZO-5 detention center.  ....

Command of Fleet Readiness Center East returned to a Marine Corps officer as Col. Thomas A. Atkinson assumed leadership of the facility in a brief ceremony held May 7.
Capt. Mark E. Nieto, the first Navy officer to take the helm of the depot, formally transferred authority and responsibility for the depot to Atkinson in a short, in-office change of command ceremony led virtually by acting Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers Capt. Christopher Couch.
The ceremony also marked the conclusion of Nieto’s military career; the outgoing FRCE commanding officer will be retiring following 28 years of service. Retired Rear Adm. Paul Sohl, former commander of the Navy’s Operational Test and Evaluation Force and former commander of all Fleet Readiness Centers, retired Nieto in a small, separate ceremony with family and friends that addressed Nieto’s lasting impact on FRCE, naval aviation and the nation’s warfighters. ....
