I decided to attend Murray State and study journalism. I went on to earn my bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from this great institution. Board of Regents discusses tuition, housing and dining rates in special meeting Posted By: Features Editor April 23, 2021 Dionte Berry A special Board of Regents was called into session via Zoom on Friday, April 23, and they began the meeting by swearing in a new member. After being sworn in, Robert Fitch expressed his thanks to the Board and congratulated the rest of the members on making it through a school year like none other with COVID-19. The board also re-elected vice-chair Eric Crigler and Secretary Jill Hunt. Committee Report: Finance Committee Regent Leon Owens discussed the authorization of the 2021-2022 tuition and mandatory fee rates. ....
Credit Screenshot The Murray State University Board of Regents during a special meeting Friday voted to allow the university administration to increase tuition and mandatory fees up to 1% if necessary. The board also swore in a Murray dentist as a new regent.
President Bob Jackson said an increase of 1% to tuition and mandatory fees would generate about $650,000 across undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, with a net cost increase of about $60 to $65 for each student.
“We have many deferred maintenance, asset preservation projects and renovation areas we need to focus on.including the Curris Center,” Jackson said. “Last year, we had a zero percent increase in faculty and staff raises, and we hope to be able to recommend faculty and staff raises.” ....

The event was held over Zoom and celebrated campus organizations for their dedication to inclusion and diversity. The event was hosted by the Multicultural Initiatives Executive Director S.G. Carthell. Carthell said even though this past year was a challenge, there is still a lot to be celebrated. “This past year has been difficult,” Carthell said. “We have lost loved ones along the way and our prayers go to every family that has suffered loss during this time. Today is a day of celebration and to recognize our students for their many accomplishments.” ....
Posted By: News Editor April 9, 2021 Emery Wainscott [email protected] The Animal Health Technology/Pre-Vet Club plans to memorialize Murray State student Sarah Townsend by building a recycled bench. The bench will be made out of recycled bottle caps. Once these are collected, the caps will be sent to Green Tree Plastics, where they will be sorted, weighed and cleaned before being melted down. Two students, junior Emmalee Storm and senior Kylee Harden, came up with the idea after some members of the Pre-Vet Club suggested different ways to memorialize Townsend. Storm said she volunteered to help Harden with the bench because they’ve both had experience with building recycled benches in high school. ....
