Some extremists have taken those clashes further unleashing vitriol, harassing opponents and even calling for violence. On Wednesday, The Guardian reported that Matthias Cicotte, an assistant attorney general in Alaska, is the owner of a Twitter account associated with the hashtag #DezNat which tweeted repeated racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic and misogynistic slurs or comments. The Alaska Department of Law is reviewing Cicotte’s online activities, The Juneau Empire reports. At the time of this story’s publication, Cicotte had not responded to several requests from the Deseret News to confirm his connection to the @JReubenCIar

share Print After a week of public violence that shocked the world, South Africa is beginning to reflect on the cause. Mass looting and destruction of property followed the jailing of former President Jacob Zuma for contempt of court after he refused to testify at an inquiry into corruption alleged to have happened when he led South Africa between 2009 and 2018. The violence left more than 200 people dead and hundreds injured, with damage to the economy estimated at billions of dollars. The unrest was only quelled by the deployment of 25,000 soldiers, who are still patrolling parts of the provinces of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
