Emmanuel Macron anunció ayer, tras una cumbre virtual con los presidentes de la región africana del Sahel, que Francia reconfigurará y reducirá su presencia militar en la zona. El presidente no abandonará a esos países, pero no ocultó que “Francia no seguirá implicada eternamente en la región”.
El 10 de junio, Macron anunció el fin de la operación Barjan, en la que 5.000 soldados franceses, junto a cientos de militares españoles, ingleses y de otros países europeos combaten a los grupos extremistas y yihadistas en ese territorio. Una operación que empezó en el 2013 en esta vasta región que abarca Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania y Níger y donde el Estado Islámico y Al Qaeda hostigan a los debilitados ejércitos locales y sus incursiones han llegado ya hasta el golfo de Guinea. ....
