Urgent call for EVERY Brit to take online type 2 diabetes risk test

A CHARITY has called for every Brit to take an online type 2 diabetes risk test - as cases hit a record high.
Cases of diabetes have doubled to nearly five million in the last 15 years, fuelled by an obesity epidemic.

New analysis from Diabetes UK shows 90 per cent of patients have type-2, caused by avoidable lifestyle choices.
Obesity is the greatest risk factor and accounts for up to 85 per cent of cases.
Chris Askew, of Diabetes UK, said: “As we look to the future post-Covid, preventing cases of type-2 diabetes must be a public health priority. ....

Diabetes cases 'double in 15 years' as obesity continues to rise

The number of people with diabetes has doubled in the last 15 years, with obesity fuelling the rise, a charity has warned.
Data analysed by Diabetes UK shows that in 2004/05 the number of people diagnosed with diabetes was 2.1 million, but by 2019/20 this had jumped to around 4.1 million.
A further 850,000 people are living with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes, a rise of 150,000 in the last year, meaning more than 4.9 million people are currently living with diabetes in the UK.
If this trend continues, there will be 5.5 million in the UK with diabetes by 2030, the charity said. ....

Doctors are looking to refer nearly 5,000 people at risk of type 2 diabetes in Suffolk and north-east Essex onto a tailored diet and exercise prevention programme this year. 
There are currently 54,000 people with the condition in Suffolk and north-east Essex, which - unlike Type 1 diabetes - is largely preventable through lifestyle changes. 
The free NHS National Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP) supports people at risk by creating diet and exercise plans and helping them make the necessary changes to their lifestyle. 
To mark National Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week, which launched on Monday, doctors are promoting the availability of more places on the programme.  ....
