VALPARAISO â A local judge cleared the way at the 11th hour Friday afternoon for a Chesterton High School wrestler to take part Saturday in the state wrestling tournament after a state education panel determined he was ineligible. In keeping with a requirement of granting the temporary restraining order, Porter Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Clymer required the student, Josh Daniels or his father, Rick Daniels, to post a $2,500 bond to potentially cover legal costs depending on the outcome of the larger case. Clymer also set a follow-up hearing for next Friday to hear the full case. The TRO was sought by the Daniels family in response to a Thursday finding by a nine-member state case review panel that the younger Daniels was ineligible to compete Saturday because he transferred from Lake Central High School to Chesterton High School in violation of an Indiana High School Athletic Association rule prohibiting transfers for primarily athletic reasons. ....

Baseball, girls lacrosse and softball will be allowed once the area is in the red tier for “substantial” stage; badminton, football, gymnastics, boys lacrosse, soccer, volleyball and water polo when it reaches the “moderate” orange tier; and basketball, competitive cheer and wrestling when it’s a yellow tier and the risk is “minimal.” “I suspect we’ll move forward with Season 1 having some combination of the low-risk sports cross country, golf, tennis, swim and dive, and track and field. I suppose that means all the other sports move to a second season, when we hopefully have better health data. For the most part, it will be league games only. ....
The Buena Vista school district reported eight confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in its schools Monday morning. âPlease note the cases are confined to two households and a single case,â said district superintendent Lisa Yates in her weekly update press release. Yates reported one positive case at The Grove preschool, 3 at Avery-Parsons Elementary School, 2 at Buena Vista Middle School and 2 at Chaffee County High School. âThe recent cases have presented as stuffy noses and small colds. Please remember to keep your child home with even minor symptoms. This will always be our very best strategy in keeping each other healthy, even when COVID is not so much a part of our everyday experience,â Yates said in the release. âWhen we each stay home when sick, we limit spread most importantly, but also reduce those who need to be quarantined.â ....
