What: The world premiere of yellow objects, an exhibition written and directed by Sydney Risk Award-winning playwright Derek Chan, is happening at The Firehall Arts Centre. The exhibition invites attendees to question our responsibility to future generations by stepping into a Hong Kong of two different eras: 2019 and 2050. The exhibition occurs in the Firehall Arts Centre’s courtyard with objects, voice recordings, and projections. There are no live performers in yellow objects, and there is a limit of ten patrons per showing. Classical music: A grittier, eye-rolling Carmen to grace our screens

It may not be the Carmen of director Brenna Corner’s dreams, or even the Carmen planned to celebrate Vancouver Opera’s first ever production six decades ago. Even so, Carmen: Up Close and Personal will end this most remarkable VO season, and what could be a better choice? Over the years VO has presented Carmens both traditional and modern, not always to universal acclaim. Its controversial 1986 version by Romanian director Lucian Pintilie is still trundled out as a cautionary tale against those hell bent on doing something new. Brenna Corner’s work with VO has been both innovative and fun. Her Elixir of Love, set in a turn of the century small town, was one of the most lovable productions of recent seasons.

Vladimir Jurowski conducts Barrie Kosky’s new staging with Marlis Petersen (Die Marschallin), Samantha Hankey (Octavian), Katharina Konradi (Sophie), Christof Fischesser (Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau), and Johannes Martin Kränzle (Herr von Faninal).
