Rains flood Cedar City; Utah may be in for a wet week

KSL TV SALT LAKE CITY This week is already off to a wet start in southern Utah and more rain is expected to head Utah s way as the week continues. Cedar City Mayor Maile Wilson-Edwards declared a state of emergency as a result of flooding from storms that passed over the southern Utah city Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service reported that Cedar City received more than 2 inches of rain in a short period of time. Scott to be sentenced Friday

Eric Scott, convicted of manslaughter in the March 2020 death of Anna Grogan Brown in April, will learn his fate Friday. Madison County Circuit Judge Claude Hundley, who presided over the four-day trial after Jackson County Circuit Judges John Graham and Brent Benson recused themselves due to Scott’s involvement in the county’s drug court system, is expected to sentence Scott Friday, May 28, at 1:30 p.m. Scott is facing 10-20 years in state prison. On March 9, 2020, authorities found Brown deceased from a gunshot wound inside a residence on County Road 36 in Hollywood. According to court testimony, Brown was shot into her left hip, severing an artery in her left leg. The bullet exited her left leg and entered her right leg, severing a vein.

Scott murder trial set to start Monday

Eric Scott, who played college football at the University of Southern Mississippi and had a lengthy arena football career, will be on trial Monday, April 12 in connection with the death of Anna Grogan Brown, 45 of Hollywood, in March 2020. Madison County Circuit Judge Claude Hundley, who was appointed, will preside over the trial after Jackson County Circuit Judges John Graham and Brent Benson recused. Authorities found Brown deceased from a gunshot wound inside a residence on County Road 36 in Hollywood. Prior to entering the residence, authorities were in standoff with Scott, who they said refused to come out. Authorities used gas canisters and made their way inside, where they said they located Scott, 38, hiding behind a counter. Authorities said a weapon was located inside the residence, along with some drugs, including methamphetamine.

After 24 years as circuit judge, Holt ready for retirement

In 1996, Jenifer Holt made history, riding in as the first female circuit judge in Jackson County history. After 24 years, longer than any other circuit judge in the county, she will ride out in retirement, closing out a storied career. “I’ve had a wonderful career,” said Holt. “This was my dream job. It’s time someone else fulfills their dream.” In her office, battling back from COVID, Holt says she is ready for retirement, ready to spend more time with family, especially the grandchildren. Holt grew up in Scottsboro, the daughter of Ray and Billie Collins. Her father played on the 1944 Jackson County High School state basketball championship team, later served as principal of Scottsboro High School and had a city school named after him.
