A serious ankle injury to captain Stephen Coniglio in a loss to Melbourne has added to the GWS Giants miserable start to the 2021 season.
Coniglio was one of four Giants stars to end the game chained to the bench through injury as Melbourne captailised to run away 15. 12. (102) to 11. 2. (68) winners in Canberra.
The Giants skipper ended his night with his right leg in a moon boot after his foot got caught under the weight of his body in a tackle from Tom Sparrow in the second quarter.
Coniglio attempted to walk the injury off but was unable to put any weight on his foot as he was eventually helped off Manuka Oval by the Giants medical staff.

Adelaide s Wayne Milera suffered a serious knee injury during Saturday’s practice match against Port Adelaide.
Scans revealed that Milera has ruptured his patella tendon after he came off the ground in the second quarter.
The luckless Crow will undergo surgery and could miss the entire 2021 season after playing just two games last year due to a stress fracture in his foot.
The Power beat the Crows by 52 points in the pre-season game at Alberton.
GWS’ injury woes have continued with recruit Jesse Hogan in doubt for the club’s Round 1 match against St Kilda.

Joe Daniher’s career rejuvenation is underway with the key forward kicking four goals for the Brisbane Lions in an outstanding hitout against Gold Coast at Metricon.
The former Essendon star had an instant impact when he marked the first centre bounce clearance of the match and kicked a long goal. The clearance came from Lions’ Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale who has overcome a calf problem that slowed him up in the pre-season.
Daniher, who joined Brisbane as a free agent after eight seasons at Essendon at the end of last year, looks set to form a dangerous combination with fellow left footer Eric Hipwood who also kicked four goals as the Lions tore the Suns apart in the first quarter to set up a match-winning lead.
