The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation announced today the selection of its 2021 class of Beckman Young Investigator Awardees from U.S. colleges and universities. The awardees exemplify the Foundation’s mission of supporting the most promising young faculty members in the early stages of their academic careers in the chemical and life sciences, particularly to foster the invention of methods, instruments, and materials that will open new avenues of research in science. They were selected from a pool of over 250 applicants after a three-part review led by a panel of scientific experts. ....

Texans over the age of 21 could soon be allowed to carry a handgun in public without a permit, background check or training. The bill, which is being led through the Texas Senate by Charles Schwertner, could make its way to floor next week. 
Texans may soon be allowed to carry a handgun in public without a permit, background check or training.
In a span of a few weeks, Texas lawmakers have pushed closer granting “permitless” carry — a move that is alarming to some in law enforcement and has split a Republican-controlled state Senate.
“What is going on out there that we need to overhaul a system that works?” said Kevin Lawrence, executive director of the Texas Municipal Police Association. “We are fine with law-abiding citizens having guns. But there are still some people who should not be allowed to carry guns in public.” ....
