Fairbury City Council approves payment, annexation agreement

FAIRBURY Alderman Lynn Dameron acted as mayor pro tem in the absence of Mayor David Slagel at the Fairbury City Council meeting Wednesday. Dameron oversaw the approval of a number of items including a one-time payment to the TP&W Railroad.
In new business, the city council approved paying a one-time fee of $26,800 to the TP&W Railroad versus a perpetual annual fee of $1,500 for easements needed for the new sewer project that will be taking place in the city.
An annexation agreement to the city was also approved. This agreement was for annexation to the D&C Wenger Subdivision and Street Dedication between Nathan D. Wenger and Emily J. Wenger, and Kyle Wenger and Kerri Wenger on the west end of Pine Street. ....

Fairbury City Council allows Fairview Haven to community trail.

FAIRBURY The Fairbury City Council has allowed Fairview Haven to hook into the community trail.
During Wednesday’s regular council meeting, Street Superintendent Martin Steidinger said those at Fairview Haven currently have to travel down Fourth Street to access the recreational path.
“They would like to go straight out from Serenity Villa,” Steidinger explained.
Fairview Haven would take care of landscaping the area with a couple of benches and wondered if the city would put some funding toward the project. While no pricing information has been released, the city will formally consider the funding aspect at a future council meeting. ....

A squad car quote was approved by the Fairbury City Council Wednesday.

FAIRBURY A squad car quote from K&S Ford was approved by the Fairbury City Council Wednesday night.
The 2021 police interceptor Explorer total price is $35,015 with discounts included. Police Chief Robert McCormick said there was a need to replace at least one car.
“We’ve had pretty good luck with the Explorers,” the chief said. “The Suburban would probably be too much vehicle for us.”
K&S indicated the delivery time could be 60 days from the order. McCormick will decide whether to trade the old squad or sell it separately.
Other price quotes came from Victory Lane Ford for a total of $34,802 and Morrow Brothers Ford at a price of $34,985. ....

big push to shop local started before the pandemic started

FAIRBURY Residents of Fairbury are doing a good job of shopping locally in this most interesting year, it was learned Wednesday at the Fairbury City Council meeting.
“It’s definitely showing in our tax receipts,” Alderman Jerry Hoffman said during the regular meeting of the board, which was held via Zoom.
Alderman Gary Norris noted local businesses are getting creative and City Superintendent Brett Ashburn pointed to a big push to shop local even before the pandemic started.
“This kind of boosted that in a way,” Ashburn said.
In another matter, Ashburn reported the truck with the water pump used for water main repairs went down. The city hopes to have the essential piece of equipment repaired and back together next week. A rebuilt pump is expected to cost around $11,000, which is significantly less than a new one. ....
