In a detailed note to mark the International Women’s Day and the Savitri Bai Phule’s Death Anniversary as part of the Feminist Week of Resistance and Reflections (March 7 to March 14), the National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM), commenting on the gendered access to justice and law, has said that recent Government of India changes in legal frameworks, whether intended or already brought into existence, have been “unmindful” of the lived realities of marginalised sections.
Over and above this, says India’s top civil rights network, the existing systems of access to justice and law for are not only is denies justice to Dalit, Bahujan, Vimukta (or Nomadic and De-notified Tribes  - NT-DNT) communities, of Adivasi and indigenous peoples, the survivors and victims of various types of violence are themselves “criminalized” on grounds of gender ....

Rajya Sabha passes Termination of Pregnancy Bill and National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill.
The Rajya Sabha passed the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Bill 2020 and the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill, 2020.
Both Houses saw multiple adjournments on all days of last week as the Opposition demanded a discussion on the rising prices of fuel in the country.

Parliament rejects motion to debate Termination of Pregnancy Bill


The motion to debate the bill was moved by Chitipa MP, Welani Chilenga.
Despite the rejection concerned youths have gathered outside Parliament- a distance away from the entrance in support of the motion.
Security officers have not allowed the youths to stand at the entrance of the Parliament.
“They will not intimidate us…we are here and we are not going anywhere” said Jessica Mandanda one of the youths.
And Chimwemwe Mlombwa from She Decides Malawi added: “Although am pleased that Hon. Ngwale is the one to present the motion, I am shocked and disappointed that the 43 women in Parliament did not see this as a maternal health issue as we are losing lives of women every single day” ....

The much-awaited motion on the Termination of Pregnancy Bill was rejected by members of parliament on Thursday from being tabled in the House and it was  removed from the revised  Order Paper, an outline of business to be tackled in Parliament.

Yes I agree with you, the left has been way too timid on this. To be fair a UBI would be a
dramatic reform and any govt would consume a great deal of political capital getting it over the line. And until this past few post-COVD months there has never been a Labour govt in a strong enough position to do this.
But the ground has shifted – it s my sense that NZ right now would be more receptive to the idea than at any time in my life.
Perhaps the most pernicious effect of our conventional targeted benefit welfare (and the one that personally first clued me into the whole idea of a UBI over 20 yrs ago) is what happens when you try to transition ....
