PHOENIX – A non-emergency medical transportation company with a call center located in Phoenix, Ariz., will pay $120,000 and furnish other relief to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today. According to the EEOC s lawsuit, LogistiCare Solutions, LLC, now doing business as ModivCare, fired two women because they were pregnant. The EEOC’s lawsuit charged that Tiffany Lewis and another pregnant woman were training to become customer service representatives. After less than one week in the training class, LogistiCare learned they were pregnant and fired them. ....
Wednesday, April 21, 2021 In December 2020, we sent out an alert encouraging employers to start thinking about how to handle vaccine-related issues; but at that time, vaccines were hard to come by and there was no guidance from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regarding whether employers could require their employees to get vaccinated. The EEOC has finally published some guidance on this issue, so it’s logical that private employers are re-exam ....

A Better Balance, a U.S. organization working to improve economic security and expand benefits for pregnant and parenting workers, is one of many groups that has weighed in on New Zealand’s expanded leave. “New Zealand’s policy shift opened up an opportunity for conversations about what workers need to care for themselves and their families,” Molly Weston Williamson, the group’s director of Paid Leave and Future of Work, ....

Now is the time for employers to think through issues raised by employee vaccination policies and programs. We address key questions about mandatory and voluntary policies, including discrimination, wage and hour, collective bargaining, safety, privacy and general liability considerations, and offer recommendations for employee vaccination programs. One year into the pandemic, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued three Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs) for COVID-19 vaccines, with more vaccines in various stages of testing. One year into the pandemic, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued three Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs) for COVID-19 vaccines, with more vaccines in various stages of testing. The vaccines are shown to be effective at protecting vaccinated people against symptomatic and severe COVID-19, and, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “a growing body of evidence suggests that fully vaccinated people are less likely to have asymptomatic infection and potentially le ....
