Strong outlook for Bass Strait wind generation project
Bass Strait has been named as one of the top options for offshore wind energy generation in the country by the national Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre (CRC).
Already the proposed Brookvale project would see offshore wind farms located at either end of Bass Strait, generating 2GW of clean energy, with the location topping the list of assessed locations for strength and consistency of wind power.
Bass Strait was found to have consistently higher and stronger winds at points both 50 and 100km offshore than the other locations and second only to Portland in Victoria for a 25km offshore based location. ....

Matt Formston paces the car park at Lennox Point in far northern NSW like a sugared-up kid waiting to pounce on the end-of-party lolly bags. Many goals have been set during the COVID-19 pandemic, some quickly broken, others set in stone. Formston has been dreaming of surfing enormous barrelling waves. He wants to stand inside a 10- to 15-foot screamer – for some arcane reason, surfers firmly adhere to imperial measurements – with a curtain of water curling over the top of him, the ocean spitting and snarling at the temerity of his intrusion.
Even in the madness of youth, when broken limbs are laughed off more readily than in middle age, there are no guarantees when a human flings themselves down the front of a big wave. In Formston’s case all bets are off: he’s nearly 95 per cent blind. ....

Sydneysiders looking to break up the day during lockdown with a spot of Devonshire tea can now have fresh scones, jam and cream delivered to their door courtesy of Petersham s Sunday Baker cafe.
When the Sydney-wide lockdown was announced on June 26, I just went and sat in the car and cried for a while, says Jacqueline Highfield, who runs The Sunday Baker with her twin daughters Isabella and Adelaide.
Afterwards, I went back into the store and said to Isabella and right – we re going to push the scones on Instagram . They re nice and comforting and we can bake to order at an affordable price point. You don t know what people s financial circumstances are going to be like during lockdown. ....
