LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly once again approved the Privileges Bill 2021, which invoked protests by journalists and was returned by the governor with objections.
The session, presided over by Speaker Ch Pervaiz Elahi, was fully participated in by MPAs of all parties. Through the amended law, one schedule was added to the original law of 1972. Journalists had some reservations about the law, to which the speaker removed the clauses from it. However, when the bill was again sent for approval of the governor, it was returned with objections. The bill was again presented by MPA Sajid Ahmad Khan Bhatti with the approval of the speaker, which was again passed with a huge majority. ....

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said on Monday that opposition parties should abandon childish politics on electoral reforms in the country and embrace the reality of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and right of vote to the overseas Pakistanis.
Speaking at ‘Meet the Press’ of the Lahore Press Club, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan had invited the opposition parties for a dialogue on electoral reforms from the floor of the National Assembly (NA), adding that if the opposition still stays away, the people were forced to believe that there was a mole in thief’s beard. ....

The Nigerian Senate on Monday passed an amendment to the Child’s Rights Act 2003, barring persons convicted of sexual offences from working with children.
This followed the presentation of a report by the Chairman of the Committee on Women Affairs, Betty Apiafi, on the Child’s Rights Act amendment.
The lawmakers said the amendment will further give protection to the Nigerian child from sexual violence and abuse suffered in the hands of caregivers and similar persons responsible for their well-being. ....
