San Juan, Jul 27 (EFE).- Bermuda on Tuesday celebrated its first-ever Olympic gold medal won by Flora Duffy in the women’s triathlon at Tokyo 2020.
Duffy’s win also gave Bermuda the title of the smallest country in the world to win a Summer Olympics gold, and its second medal, after Clarence Hill’s bronze in the boxing in Montreal 1976.
The 33-year-old 2016 and 2017 world champion won at the Odaiba Marine Park in the Japanese capital after completing the 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer cycle and 10-km run in one hour, 55 minutes and 36 seconds. ....

The 33-year-old, making her fourth appearance at an Olympics, came out on top of the 56-woman field with a time of one hour 55 minutes 36 seconds - more than a minute ahead of Great Britain s Georgia Taylor-Brown and USA s Katie Zaferes.
Bermuda already held the record for being the least populated country to win a summer Olympic medal thanks to a bronze for boxer Clarence Hill in 1976 but now they have their first gold medal winner.
It s been a heck of a lot of pressure for five years, Duffy said. ....

TOKYO (Reuters) – Flora Duffy has already been awarded an OBE for services to Bermudan sport and now, having added the country’s first Olympic gold medal to her sparkling CV, she will hope things pan out better than for the island’s only other Games medallist.
After collecting a heavyweight boxing bronze in 1976 Clarence Hill’s life spiralled downwards into drugs and he eventually served jail time for dugs offences and armed robbery. ....
