Council approves tender to design 4,500 seat arena despite concerns from councillors about review transparency

Prince Albert Daily Herald The site of the new indoor recreation centre, and 4,500 seat arena. Jason Kerr/Daily Herald Prince Albert city council has awarded the contract to design a new WHL-size arena to BBB Architects and KSA Architects of Toronto and Saskatoon, despite concerns from at least one councillor that the process was not open or transparent. Council voted 6-3 in favour of BBB and KSA, the firm city administrators recommended as the top bid out of the 14 received after the City put out call for proposals. The contract will cost the City an estimated $3.2-million. Couns. Tony Head, Charlene Miller and Terra Lennox-Zepp all voted against the project. Head was the decision’s most vocal critic. He said more consideration should have been given to local companies when awarding the design, and argued administration favoured certain companies over others instead of providing an objective review.

Raiders win the last one for Moe, Nachbaur and Paddock

Max Paddock’s career also ended on Wednesday night, but in a much more unusual way. Paddock was ejected after receiving a match penalty for striking Bronco forward Josh Davies with his blocker after Davies gave Paddock a snow shower and ran into the Raider goaltender in the third period. But instead of sulking about it in the showers, Paddock nervously watched from the tunnel in the hopes that the group of guys he became so close with since last year’s trade deadline could pull off the victory. “They’re my brothers out there. Unfortunately, I took a penalty that got me out of the game, but I wanted to be there to support them. We spend every single hour of the day together for the past two months, you’ve been playing video games we’re always hanging out. They’ve grown to be my brothers in that dressing room, so I just wanted to be there for them and support them any way I could. Fortunately, they pulled it off.”

Hildebrand signs with Raiders - Prince Albert Daily Herald

Prince Albert Daily Herald The Prince Albert Raiders have added a third goalie to their lineup. The club announced on Friday morning that 16-year-old Max Hildebrand had signed with the team and has joined the squad in Regina after clearing protocols put in place by the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Western Hockey League. Hildebrand, who is from Martensville, was a 13th round pick of the Raiders in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. After posting a 14-5-1 record with a 2.81 goals against average, an .896 save percentage and a shutout in 2019-20 for the Rink Hockey Academy’s Elite 15 program in Winnipeg, Hildebrand returned to his home province this season to play for the Saskatoon Contacts.
