Mrs. Brenda Almquist (nee Broad), age 73 years, entered into the presence of her Lord on Monday, December 21, 2020, in St. Joseph s Hospice with family by her side. Brenda was born September 19, 1947 in Port Arthur Ontario, and lived her life in Thunder Bay. She worked for many years as a chambermaid at the Prince Arthur Hotel, leaving briefly to obtain her training and then work as a nurses aide at various homes in the city. Mom s greatest accomplishments were marrying the love of her life, Louis Almquist; becoming a stay-at-home mother; and raising their 3 children. She was a great cook, and loved to bake, often making batches of perogies, cabbage rolls, and goodies with her siblings. ....
It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother (Baba) Mary Hryb, aged 93, at Pioneer Ridge, December 23, 2020. Mary (Marika) was born October 20, 1927 in, Bohorodchany, Ivano-Frankiysk Oblast, Ukraine, the daughter of Myhalo and Eustena Romanyshak. Growing up near the Carpathian Mountains, Mary and her young sister Paraskovia learned to prepare traditional Ukrainian dishes and embroider intricate tapestries. Her exquisite art pieces adorn her home for everyone to admire. In her eighties, Mary delighted her family with drawing captivating Ukrainian scenes in vivid colours, attesting to an innate artistic talent. In 1940 when Mary was 12 years old, her father died leaving her mother to take care of them and the family home. Earlier that same year, older brothers Myhola and Dmytro were conscripted into the military leaving their mother and siblings to manage on their own.
