Courtroom jury boxes surrounded by plexiglass and plastic barriers ‘new normal’ in pandemic

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Courtroom jury boxes look far different than they did before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jury trials in Michigan courts have been shutdown for nearly a year but for a few exceptions. The backlog is expected to take years to clear in some counties.
In a few counties, trials are starting up again with declines in the positivity rate for COVID-19 and protections include hockey-style penalty boxes for jurors, makeshift plastic sheet barriers, and plexiglass mounted on witness stands.
Trusock doesn’t expect the courtroom safety measures to go away anytime soon. ....
