WARREN The attorney for Joseph S. Nohra Jr., former Liberty schools superintendent, said his client “emphatically and categorically” denies the charges that he was unlawfully bugging the school district office in 2018.
Nohra, 49, of Topper Hill Drive, Hubbard, was indicted by a special report of the Trumbull County grand jury Monday on six counts of interception of wire, oral or electronic communications and five counts of interfering with civil rights.
“Mr. Nohra emphatically and categorically denies the baseless allegations contained in the indictment,” attorney David Betras stated in a news release Tuesday. “My client is both bewildered and astounded that he now faces criminal charges for taking decisive steps to protect the taxpayers and looks forward to defending himself against these ludicrous accusations.” ....

WARREN A special report of a Trumbull County grand jury Monday charges a former superintendent of the Liberty Local School District with six felonies and five misdemeanors.
A state auditor’s investigation accuses Joseph S. Nohra Jr., 49, of Topper Hill Drive, Hubbard, of bugging a school district office in 2018.
Nohra is named in direct indictments on six counts of interception of wire, oral or electronic communications, and five counts of interfering with civil rights. The first charges are fourth-degree felonies and the second batch are first-degree misdemeanors.
Nohra resigned in June 2020 as Liberty superintendent. According to assistant county Prosecutor Charles Morrow, the charges stem from an investigation from an incident occurring over two weeks in April 2018. Morrow said none of the intercepted communications involved students or children. A report, however, stated Nohra is accused of installing video surveillance on the ceilin ....

WARREN A Niles man caught by police last March attempting to break into a safe at Huntington Bank inside a Niles Giant Eagle store received a 18-month prison sentence.
Joshua T. Huey, 33, of Williams Street, appeared Monday before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos for sentencing. Huey and his attorney Robert Kokor asked for leniency, but Kontos opted for a prison sentence after hearing the argument from assistant Prosecutor Charles Morrow, who sought for a three-year prison term.
In a prepared statement, Huey said he was disappointed, embarrassed and ashamed by his actions.
In a police report, Niles police were called after 2 a.m. March 15, 2020, to the Giant Eagle where they heard the noise of a power tool and smelled hot metal before finding a 32-year-old man, identified as Huey, attempting to use power tools to break into a safe at the Huntington Bank. ....
