MUMBAI: A magistrate’s court has convicted and sentenced a 41-year-old man to a year’s imprisonment for failing to report to the authorities that the woman he had married was a foreigner and was living in the country illegally. The man’s wife was also convicted and sentenced to a year in jail for being an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh. The man, Sameer Barai, and his wife, Jyoti, have two children. “There is nothing on record to show that accused no 1 (Sameer) at any point of time reported to police that accused no 2 (Jyoti) is a foreigner. To the contrary, it reveals that he (is) married to accused no 2, and they have two children out of this marriage. No one can suppose that a husband do not (sic) know the basic fact of citizenship of his wife. It is not at all expected. Any sane person can go with the same line of thinking,” the court said. ....

It made 45 times more profit than the currency was initially worth four years ago, when the man was arrested. This is the first time that a stash of digital coins linked to criminal activities was sold by authorities after being forfeited and left in cold storage. The Suwon District Prosecutors Office said this week it had sold 191 bitcoins seized from a man identified only by his surname Ahn. The coins were collectively worth 270 million won in spring 2017 when they were seized, and were sold for 12.29 billion won ($10.9 million) on March 25. ....
ABCDEFG SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) South Korea s prosecution has busted an international drug cartel and tracked down its drug manufacturing facility in cooperation with Malaysian police, officials said Thursday. The Supreme Prosecutors Office (SPO) said it worked with the customs office to confiscate 16.4 kilograms of methamphetamine shipped into the country from Malaysia in January-March and shared criminal information and drug trafficking methods with Kuala Lumpur s police. Based on the intelligence, Malaysian police apprehended 13 members of an international drug trafficking organization based in its capital. They also seized illicit drugs worth 5.42 billion won (US$4.78 million), including 64 kg of ketamine and 12.2 kg of methamphetamine, as well as the cartel s production facility. ....
