London to get its own Manhattan-style 'Highline'

An aerial look at the proposed Camden Highline
A slice of Manhattan could soon be coming to London, as the team behind New York’s High Line has been appointed to design London’s very own park in the sky, in Camden.
The Camden Highline initiative plans to morph a three-quarter-mile stretch of disused railway into a pedestrianised route between Camden and Kings Cross.
The idea came from an academic at University College London named Oliver O’Brien, who posted a blog in 2012 listing the stretches of disused railway in London where a highline could possibly work. The section that was deemed easiest and most obvious was this stretch of rail between Camden and Kings Cross. ....

New York was revitalised by the High Line, a ribbon of parkland floating above Manhattan on a disused elevated railway that has become one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions.
Now the High Line’s designer hopes to give London its own green thread, after being chosen to create the Camden Highline.
James Corner was picked last week as the lead architect for the structure, a linear park on three-quarters of a mile of railway viaducts running from Camden to Kings Cross, which he believes will give London a similar boost after the trials of Covid and Brexit. ....

A Forgotten Airport Has Been Revamped Into a Thriving Public Park

French landscape architects Mosbach Paysagistes have created an ecological oasis on the grounds of a former airport outside the bustling city of Taichung, Taiwan. The sprawling layout of the park uses the original topography of the airport to create numerous installations, fields, and vantage points. Roughly based on philosopher Rudolf Steiner’s “Principle of the 12 Senses,” the architects set out to create 12 different fields, each designated to a sense; from a speech field by a lake crafted to create echoes, to a smell field brimming with a plantation of highly perfumed flowers, the park is all about connecting with the surrounding biodiversity around its visitors. ....
