Clog maker takes first step into renewable content : Biofuels Digest

In Philadelphia, popular lifestyle clog maker Dansko has begun using biobased ethylene vinyl acetate from Brazil’s Braskem. The new Kane footwear line will contain up to 50% biobased content, provide comparable shock absorption to Dansko’s conventional clogs, and feature the company’s Natural Arch technology. The clog will launch this spring at www.dansko.com/kane-blue-eva-clog.
Braskem says its I’m green™ bio-based EVA is sustainably produced from sugarcane and reduces greenhouse gas emissions via CO
2 capture. The material can be used in footwear, toys, general foams and more.

Materials maker Braskem America is putting its best foot forward with an EVA biopolymer for Dansko s new line of clogs.
More than 50 percent of the footware comes from Braskem s renewable I m Green-brand carbon-negative EVA bio-based polymer. Officials said that the new Kane clog offers consumers a lightweight clog that s perfect for everyday wear.
The Kane clog provides excellent shock absorption and features a removable foot bed, which incorporates Dansko Natural Arch technology for added support, they added. The resin price hikes that complicated the end of 2020 kept on rolling right into the first month of 2021.
North American polypropylene prices absorbed the heaviest blow, surging an average of 13 cents per pound in January, after jumping 14 cents in December. That two-month total of 27 cents in increases has led some processors to issue price surcharges on PP-finished products.
And more PP price hikes could be on the way, as prices for polymer-grade propylene monomer feedstock continue to rise, recently topping 80 cents per pound. Regional PP prices now are up 46.5 cents per pound since May. ....
