Mangaluru: Girls sports hostel stuck at announcement stage Tue, Jan 19 2021 03:45:17 PM Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP) Mangaluru, Jan 19: The budgetary allocation of Rs 1.5 crore each announced for building separate sports hostels for high school girls at ten places in Karnataka including the city for housing girl students with particular interest in sports has not been released. Therefore, the announcement has got stuck at the initial stage. As of now, the sports hostel is located near Mangala Stadium here, where both high school boys and girls are accommodated. As per rules, girls and boys have to be provided separate hostels. Therefore, the government had decided to build additional blocks for girl students at places where the sports hostels exist now. The engineers of the department have inspected the spot and submitted project report. There is likelihood of the grant getting delayed on account of coronavirus lockdown etc. ....

Nagaraj Kharvi who teaches at the Kalmanja government higher primary school in Udupi district of Karnataka, attempted the feat on Friday. Kharvi, who has won national-level swim championship, swam in the Padmasana Yoga posture in Arabian sea at Thannirubhavi in Mangaluru. Talking to ANI, Kharvi said that he was swimming for creating a record in India Book of records. I swam for get into my name in India Book of Records. Swimming in Padmasana position is a combination of Yoga and swimming, he said. ....

Teacher by profession Nagaraja Kharvi Kanchugodu, who is already renowned for his swimming skills is the one who created a new record. Nagaraja is serving as a teacher in the higher primary school of Kalmanja in Bantwal taluk. Kharvi swam one km in the Arabina Sea near Tannirbhavi in just 25 minutes and 16 seconds and created a new record. He started the feat at 8.55 am from the shore and returned back to the shore at 9.20 am. ....
