MediaNama has learnt that this decision was taken in a BVLOS expert committee meeting recently in view of the myriad proposals the Ministry of Civil Aviation was receiving with regard to the use of drones to deliver COVID19 vaccines. What is BVLOS? As opposed to “visual line of sight” (VLOS) operations which underlines that the pilot of the drone has to maintain continuous, unaided visual contact with the unmanned aircraft, BVLOS drone operations allow for piloting a drone remotely, without having to be manoeuvred by looking at it. ....

File/Agence France-Presse The central government is expected to offer 6-10 airports for the next stage of airport privatisation, a senior official said. The process is expected to commence from FY22. At present, the centre is in the process of identifying these airports which will be offered via competitive bidding to the private sector for a lease period of 50 years for operation, management and development of their infrastructure. Briefing about the Budget 2021-22 proposals for the aviation sector, Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Kharola said that both profitable and non-profitable airports will be clubbed for bidding. ....
The government plans to invite bids to privatise six to 10 state-run airports in the first quarter of the next fiscal, with plans for a “package” offer that clubs profitable and non-profitable airports to realise optimum value. “AAI is examining giving non-profitable airport and profit making airports as a package. We could see six to 10 airports being taken up. The airports will be given to the private sector for 50 years,” Pradeep Kharola, secretary, ministry of civil aviation said on Thursday. The bidding terms for the operation of the airports, their management as well as the development of infrastructure will be structured to encourage long-term leases of the facilities. ....
