What began as a performance for a festival has transformed into a sonorous six-track EP. A for Aleph has worked its magic again; this time with Wajiha Naqvi’s Women of the World 2021 performance.
During the first digital edition of Women of the World (2021), several performances were embedded within the festival. One very strong and beautiful performance was called
‘Hijrat’ and featured Wajiha Naqvi with Umair Dar and Jasir Abro, accompanying her. But the performance has been released by A for Aleph on their YouTube page – minus any glitches and furthermore as an EP, published by A for Aleph Records. ....

The growth of independent record labels, several EPs, music videos, singles and the resurrection of electro-pop in mainstream music via Velo Sound Station (VSS) and a dissimilar version of Coke Studio 2020…these were some of music’s defining moments in what has been a difficult year.

The resurgence of electro-pop music on VSS by the likes of Strings, Shamoon Ismail and an electrifying cover of the late Nazia Hassan’s ‘Boom Boom’ by Meesha Shafi, has fans in jovial spirits.

Sounds change every decade or so. It is how music has evolved. There are always listeners who do not enjoy newer shows because they feel like an imitation of the west. Some are purists who do not enjoy covers.
However, the purpose behind Velo Sound Station was to take pop music back to listeners around the country and beyond, and it did so digitally. The response (going by the numbers alone) is an acceptance of the show. Corporate-fuel music was a reality when releasing records on cassette was the norm as pop music began in Pakistan during its early days. It is happening again as independent artists are getting a slot in the same shows as ubiquitous artists who collectively makeup the top tier of the music scene. And that is the thing to celeb ....
