The Senate will not push through with its scheduled inquiry this week into the fatal shootout between police personnel and Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority (PDEA) agents in Quezon City. The Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, chaired by former police chief now Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, was supposed to conduct the inquiry on Tuesday, March 2.

Police Corporals Elvin Garado and Lauro de Guzman, Jr. suffered multiple gunshot wounds following the incident at a mall along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Wednesday evening. An autopsy will be performed on their remains. The PNP mourned the death of the two police officers. Garado, 36, was assigned to the Quezon City Police Department in 2015. He was assigned to the District Special Operation Unit of the QCPD in December 2020.

Published February 25, 2021 8:24pm The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency was informed about the Quezon City Police District s plan to hatch a buy-bust operation against two drug personalities in the city, documents obtained by GMA News indicated. According to Emil Sumangil s exclusive report on 24 Oras , documents showed the QCPD coordinated with the PDEA on February 23 a day ahead of the anti-drug operation and the deadly shootout between QC policemen and PDEA agents.   The operation was supposed to be led by a police major with 29 other officials and operatives. Based on the document, the Regional Tactical Operations Center of the PDEA-National Capital Region accepted the coordination form of the QCPD on the same day.
