GoPNG UN Sign Agreement

508 reads The Government of Papua New Guinea and the UN have co-signed an agreement to support the economic development work as part of the post-referendum activities. The signing with UN, through its United Nations Development Program (UNDP) supports lasting peace and long term political settlement process in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Secretary to the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council, Ivan Pomaleu and UNDP’s PNG Representative, Dirk Wagener signed the project; Sustaining Peace through Economic Empowerment this week in Port Moresby. The project is an extension of the work the UN has played in the implementation process of the Bougainville Peace Agreement (BPA) leading up to the referendum and will continue to the post-referendum consultations between the two governments.

UNDP supplies vehicles and ICT equipment in support of Bougainville peace process Format NCOBA Caretaker Director Mr. Wemin Boi – with UNDP Resident Representative  Mr. Dirk Wagener – at the handover ceremony. © UNDP Papua New Guinea Two vehicles and information technology equipment worth Kina 325,000 (USD 92,370) was today handed over in Port Moresby to the National Coordination Office for Bougainville Affairs (NCOBA) by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in support of the ongoing post-referendum process, as part of the implementation of the Bougainville Peace Agreement. The vehicles and much needed equipment was handed over by UNDP to ensure that the key national government institution for Bougainville affairs is fully equipped to perform its functions toward the post-referendum process and socio-economic support to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

Bougainville and PNG govts meet for talks in Arawa

The Papua New Guinea and autonomous Bougainville governments are meeting today in Arawa for the latest talks on Bougainville s post-referendum process. The Bougainville Joint Consultative Body is the primary forum for both governments to discuss issues and comply with the requirements of the Peace Agreement. BOUGAINVILLE HARDLINERS GRAB POLICE VEHICLE Submitted by admin on Fri, 12/29/2000 - 00:00 By Jack Metta PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (December 28, 2000 - The National/PINA Nius Online) -Bougainville police chief Joe Bemu has been directed by his superiors to seek help from Bougainvillean leaders to recover a police vehicle commandeered at gunpoint by rebel hardliners in Arawa during Christmas. Islands Regional Police Commander Assistant Commissioner Matthew Minok said the vehicle was allegedly commandeered by a rebel commander in Arawa, known to police. The man is notorious for four other carjackings in the past, Mr. Minok said. His latest acquisition is Arawa s only police vehicle - a Toyota open back Land Cruiser driven by a lone policeman at the time of the hold-up.
